As a regular frequenter and fan of Nottingham (the city not the football team, just to be clear) I was hardly surprised to find them featured in Pebble Mags guide to sustainable cities.
I was pleased to see some of my favourite places in Nottingham on the guide as well as some new places for me to explore. Yesterday I ventured into the city to check some of them out.
Cartwheel Coffee is in my mind the best place for coffee in Nottingham, they take their time over your brew, but boy it’s worth it.
Cow Vintage has shops in many cities, but in Nottingham they go above and beyond offering vintage treasures. Cow collect sanitary products for Monthly Gift Notts who distribute to the homeless and needy, in return you get 10% off anything you buy in the shop. Having plenty of my Monthlies stocked up, I donated and got a nice £1.80 off a vintage gingham playsuit. Win-win for me and period poverty.
Aside from what’s listed on Pebble, Nottingham has much more to offer, yesterday I discovered…
Secret Pizza who are based at the side of Rough Trade record store in an alley way. Doesn’t sound so appetising, but they offer really tasty vegan and veggie pizzas. I stopped off there yesterday for a tomato based pizza with mozzarella, red leicester, red onion and basil. Accompanied by fair trade lemonade, it was just the pick-up I needed.
White Rose have 5 stores dotted across Nottingham, all offering great quality and stylish second hand clothes and accessories. All proceeds support the Aegis Trust who work to prevent genocide.
Pulp Friction in the National Justice Museum is a really relaxing cafe ran by a social enterprise. It provides volunteering opportunities, support and employs young people with learning disabilities. I went to a chocolate-making class there a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it.
Nottingham is the first city to be listed in the Pebble Guide, but coming up are cities such as Bristol, Brighton (a favourite of mine, see my guide here) and Norwich. If you’re heading to any of these cities, check out the guides as they give some great suggestions on where to stay, what to see and where to eat and shop.
Hope you’re having a great bank holiday!
