It’s that time of year and I’m at that age… everyone’s getting married!
So, without further ado, here’s the low down of an outfit I wore to my cousin’s beautiful wedding on Saturday and which will be worn time and time again and again for the other weddings in my diary.
The jumpsuit: Mayamiko
Mayamiko are not just a clothing brand, they work in partnership with Mayamiko Trust, a charity set up in 2008 that aims to help the most disadvantaged people in Malawi. The project currently provides training in sewing and tailoring as well as financial and business skills to local, disadvantaged women, many of whom are affected by the HIV pandemic or who are carers of HIV orphans.
The jumpsuit is made from a surplus of ethically sourced Milawian cotton fabric by Mayamiko artists in a fair trade workshop. It was ridiculously comfy to wear and didn’t crease (it’s definitely coming on my travels with me!), the only issue (as with any jumpsuit) is the toilet situation which after a few beers isn’t great.
The bag: Second hand – eBay
I’d searched high and low, online and in shops for a wicker basket that wasn’t too expensive. Finally this bag, AKA the apple picker (thanks Rob), was purchased as a bargain from eBay. Second hand is always a good sustainable fashion choice as it’s giving something that would otherwise be put into landfill another lease of life.
The shoes: Borrowed – my Mam
I don’t wear heels very often. Whenever the time comes round to wearing them I begrudge buying any as I’d never get my wear out of them. That’s where my saviour of a Mam comes in handy (who luckily has the same sized feet as me and a very good taste in shoes)!
There you have it, my sustainable wedding guest outfit.
As a final note, I’d like to say congratulations to the bride and groom from Saturday. It was an amazing day, here’s to a happy life together!
Ciao xxx
